So, I am absolutely terrified about going to the dr...it was only last week i opened up for the first time and told the two most important people in my life how crazy i feel. i feel a weight has been lifted, but i am not excited about telling a total stranger.

what will he/she ask me?

what will they say?

Will they prescribe medicine?

how do i know if they are qualified to help me or not? any warniing signs?

thank you!

If your worried about the person treating you being qualified you should study a little bit about it so you will know if they are using effective methods.

As far as I know, combining exposure and response prevention with medication is suppose to be the most effective treatment, although they can work separately. there are other treatments as well.

It is up to you if you want to take medication, read about it if you want to further your understanding.

Sometimes the best way around fear is to bluntly accept it. Instead of finding a way around being so afraid, just allow yourself the freedom to fear/not fear it - that way, you're telling your subconscious mind that you could really care less either way. Plus, you're not going to die!

The last thing a doctor is going to do is try to humiliate you, so right off the bat, take a nice long, deep breath and relax. They'll completely understand. Just open up and tell them exactly what you're going through.

And also, you've already let out the secret, right? People know you feel crazy, but that probably didn't change their perceptions of you one bit. And besides, maybe you just feel crazy because of the simple fact that you bottle it up and don't let anyone else know. No wonder you feel so good when you open up! Do it more :)

Anyways, good luck - and hang in there. Just remember, even if you do get humiliated, it's not the end!
