Hi pwl- welcome to the forum. I don't think you have anything to fear here- most people here are pretty openminded,friendly, and can relate.
I can relate to having a screwed up and disfuntional upbringing (along with a few traumatic experiences) and as far as my mother- yes, it was (and still is) difficult for me to confide in her because she will tell it to the world.
