HYPERHIDROSIS TREATMENT by VASER
Tackle Excess Perspiration in the Armpit with the Revolutionary Vaser Treatment.
Hyperhidrosis affects millions of people around the world, and this latest technology is proven to permanently destroy the sweat glands.
Excess perspiration is a common problem that many people face no matter how much deodorant or antiperspirant is applied, it does not combat the odour or treat the embarrasing effects of this medical condition.
Dr Viel now offers the new Vaser treatment, which has been scientifically proven to stop this embarrasing condition caused by excess sweat glands. It is an advanced treatment, which gives patients the first permanent solution to unwanted perspiration. This treatment can only be carried out to the armpits and cannot be carried out on the hands or the feet.
At The London Centre for Aesthetic Surgery we have been using the Vaser system to treat patients wanting liposuction for years, Liposelection by Vaser was approved by The FDA in September 2002 and has proven to be the best form of fat removal to date.
The Vaser system is a minimally invasive procedure that uses state-of-art ultrasound technology and it is this ultrasound technology that has been proven to remove the excess sweat glands with no unwanted side effects in the armpit.
As a practice known for using the latest technology for the benefit of our patients, we have selected the Vaser technology to ensure predictable results and fast healing. We have thoroughly researched this technology to make this decision with confidence, and as one of the only clinics within the UK to be using this technology, we welcome the opportunity to help you determine if the Vaser treatment is right for you.
Hyperhidrosis Treatment by VASER
The Vaser technology is the next generation of ultrasound, designed and widely used across America. It is the latest advancement of ultrasonic assisted systems, and is the most advanced approach to removing sweat glands permanently available today. In fact, the technology is so gentle and specific that it was originally designed to treat brain tumours.
What distinguishes the Vaser treatment is its ability to differentiate the sweat glands from body tissues that are best left undisturbed – such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues. This latest generation of ultrasonic energy simply bounces off these healthy and important tissues while only targeting and destroying the sweat glands. Most patients experience a fast recovery and return to normal activities within 5 – 7 days.
Before your surgery
In the week before, you should not take any medications containing aspirin (acetyl salicylic acid), since these products affect the blood’s clotting mechanism and therefore may lead to excessive bleeding during and after surgery, hence resulting increased bruising. Taking high doses of vitamin E preparations, eating large amounts of garlic and consuming alcohol can also produce the same result and should be avoided. If pain medication is necessary, we recommend you take ibuprofen/paracetamol.
It is in your own best interests to quit smoking, at least two weeks before and until 2 weeks after surgery. It is well known that smoking causes narrowing of the blood vessels, which leads to a decreased blood supply to the skin, thus slowing and interfering with the healing process.
Be sure to inform your surgeon of any medications you take, as well as possible allergies including (drug, latex, plasters and so on). Your surgeon will decide whether preliminary examinations are necessary, such as blood tests. If this is the case, these tests should be performed several weeks before the surgery.
Your Hyperhidrosis Treatment by Vaser
Your procedure will be performed under Local Anaesthetic with Sedation (this is not a general anaesthetic). You may or may not be aware of what is going on, you will be totally pain free and will not remember the procedure. The procedure will take place at our office in Harley Street.
It is best not to wear any makeup when you come in for your operation, and to wear loose clothing that will fit over the support garment you will need to wear after your operation.
Do not eat or drink anything for 6 hours before your operation.
During the procedure, the area will be filled with a special saline solution that helps to numb the site and shrink the blood vessels . This solution wets and fills the area to be treated, making the sweat glands more pronounced and easier to destroy with the VASER system’s sound energy, it also stops the area from overheating. Then, small probes transmit sound energy (similar to that used for cataract removal in the eye) that destroy the sweat glands, while leaving other important tissues undisturbed. High frequency sound waves target and destroy less resistant sweat glands on contact, while harmlessly bouncing off other healthy and important tissues. Once the surgeon has carried out the procedure a stitch will be placed under the arm, this will be 2 mm and discrete once the area is healed. After this time, patients are free from unwanted perspiration permanently with no further treatment neceessary.
Can all sweat glands by removed?
The treatment is able to remove all sweat glands in the armpit. If the treatment is not 100% succesful, it maybe repeated. After the treatment, deodorant is not required.
After the operation
The operation will take from 45 minutes to 1 hour. After the operation you will remain at the clinic for a further 2 hours to allow us to monitor your progress, after which you will be free to leave.
Make certain you have someone to collect you and stay with you overnight after the surgery. You are not allowed to travel unaccompanied or drive a car for 48 hours after the surgery, due to the effects of the anaesthetic.
The recovery time from Hyperhidrosis by Vaser is normally one week, at this point you may resume normal activities with the exception of heavy lifting. Recovery is so rapid that most patients return to normal activities within days. You should expect to feel some soreness, tenderness and discomfort which could last up to 5 to 7 days.
After the operation you will need to wear a support garment for one week. This will protect the area under the arm. This garment must be worn for 24 hours a day for 7 days; you will not be able shower during this week. After one week you return to the clinic to see the nurse to have your bandages and sutures removed. You may or may not see the surgeon during this appointment, but will return after 6 weeks for a postoperative visit with the surgeon.
Cost of Procedure
Under-arm (Hyperhidrosis) from: £2500
If you have any further questions or queries about this procedure, please feel free to call and speak to either Dr Roberto Viel, Dr Maurizio Viel or any of our nurses. Please note that it is necessary to attend a consultation prior to your operation, this is also the case with existing patients, it may also be necessary to have repeat blood tests.
