Hi,

I just joined SPW. I'm in my early 40s, and was diagnosed with "generalized social anxiety disorder" when I was 24.

I did CBT for a little while in the mid 90s but had a hard time with it. I seem a lot better now than I was in my early 20s but it might be because I have been avoiding everything that creates anxiety for years. I had a lot of trouble when I was in university (panic attacks were quite frequent) but now I have a steady job that involves almost no contact with anyone except the people in my department.

I have no relation to DangerEchidna, BTW. ;)

Welcome - it sounds like you've made good choices by tailoring your lifestyle to your needs!

I'd be interested to know your thoughts on CBT at some point too x

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

@twiggle:
My choices tend to be based on avoidance of anxiety. I was lucky enough to not have money worries while I was in school so I was never exposed to the jobs that a lot of people have to endure. I went straight from school into a quiet desk job surrounded by other quiet people, and was lucky enough to be invited into that job by someone I met in school. So I've had some luck, too. :)

I am not living up to the potential I could have without the SA.
