I have noticed that most OCD cases are of consistent handwashing. I have never experienced this though I wish my acts were in this manner compared to the way I am at the moment. I don’t know if this will be naive of me or non-understanding but I feel hand washers and hygiene are more of a paranoia based illness? I mean, sure they wash and keep clean all the time but would that have stemmed from paranoia to begin with?
I get frustrated if I mention OCD around others they use this as the cliché symptom.
What are everybody’s thoughts?
Personally its not even germs or whatever, but it seems to be just a feeling like they are still dirty. Maybe if you experienced it you'd change your mind, but whatever your doing seems to be a lot easier than the hand washing, at least depending on the extent of it.
I think some of the paranoia comes from the feeling that I have when they are clean; they don't really feel clean later when covered with foods and after using the bathroom, so I just repeatedly wash and they eventually feel good again. Sometimes I think the feeling is just the dry skin, but I try to use lotion to offset the dry skin feeling.
I know some of it started when my friend would bring tacoes and they would get covered in grease from the food, and the grease was hard to get off of my hands without washing them at least two or three times. Then I started washing them more for other certain events, and then it set of a chain reaction which caused the hand washing to get worse.
Why don't we switch OCDs for a day?
