hi, i'm new here :) i'm 15 and i'm from canada.
i've had nervous axillary and palmar sweating for three years. i'm tempted to say it's getting out of hand .. i have low self-esteem, and it's prevented me from being close to people.
i've never used topical products suited to HH, the closest thing i've used is Secret Clinical Strength. which obviously didn't work for me.
i'm considering odaban .. but do you think that would be suited to me ? is drysol more effective ?
thanks in advance, this is such a great forum from what i've seen.

If i were u I would give Iontophoresis a shot first, my hands used to sweat so much especially during interviews or exams, but ever since I bought Idromed 5, my hands are so dry now. It's weird when you KNOW your hands are about to sweat but theyre bone dry.

the problem with that is that my mom doesn't take my condition seriously so I'm more interested in an antiperspirant.
thanks for the help though. :)

tell your mother it is serious
show her tis website and others
the sooner you start treat this, the better
don't act like it's not an issue because your mother thinks so

In my experience it's very difficult to convince someone this is a serious condition. I've had many trouble with explaining this hh to my parents, which is even tougher because both have a medical background. When they were younger though, hh was even less of an acknowledged problem than it is now, so they never learned about it. Very very frustrating. Even now there are still some instances where I realise they don't really get it, but I guess you can never really get it if you don't have it. As I'm the only one in my family with HH that doesn't help either. It's also the reason I don't tell most of my friends about it, and the ones who know a little I don't tell the details, because most people will just put it down to some mental weakness. Unfortunately that's just how it is for now.

Still, you need to take all the action you can to do what you can about it. On sweathelp.org there are some documents also for family members to learn them how to deal with hh and the serious effects it can have on someone's life. The whole process of trying to find the best treatment for you also takes some time usually, so you want to start as early as possible.

Aye, I feel all your pain regarding convincing people of this condition, even some doctors...

Vast, for your axillary the prescription antiperspirant I use is called Anhydrol Forte and it has worked absolute wonders. If you can try get hold of that give it a try. For the palmar sweating I would also suggest iontophoresis although I don't do this myself many people on this forum have found it works. Good luck and keep us updated. :)

okay. a couple days ago i went to a walk in clinic on my on volition, and the doctor who saw me was clearly confused with my condition, but he said sweating might be a sign of a thyroid issue, so i got a bloodtest. he prescribed this cream for me .. i looked it up on the internet, and it was meant for irritation and rashes, which didn't do anything for me. so i went to the drugstore and picked up a bottle of mild drysol .. so far so good, though !

Hey Vast!

Now you know why this forum exists! Doctor gave you a cream for rashes?!!
Many of us have had unsatisfactory responses from doctors. Think they don't take it seriously--or us.

It's good he did the thyroid test, though. Might be an answer.

Yeah, I had a few doctors who didn't have a clue. I told one to give me a thyroid test because that could be the issue but the results came back normal..

hope drysol works for you, im using iontophoresis and it's perfect for me. By the way, if drysol is showing results but not complete dryness, try the self-made iontophoresis device, it's more economical.

okay, well drysol is good, i guess. it doesn't work COMPLETELY and i find the sweating has moved to other places, like my hands or feet .. so i don't know if this is just the beginning or the end.
