Government jobs

How the freak do I apply for a government job? I don't have many skills, but I can type quickly and accurately and I can lift things. I just can't seem to figure out how to get the job.

My friends that have government jobs are financially stable, and I want to experience that.

Depends on the job. Usually you take a civil service exam. But some exams are only given once every few years, and sometimes you take the exam and have to work part time for years before a full time position opens up. It always involves a lot of waiting. Where do you live and what are you looking for?
