Going to a party tonight

I am going to a party for an aquaintence this evening. The only reason I am going is because a couple of other people I know are going, and we all independently decided we would go if the others went. The person who is having the party is very socially awkward (more so than me, in my opinion) and we feel kind of sorry for/protective of him. I anticipate an awkward experience, but feel like it would be almost cruel to not go (as a child to young adult, I often didn't have many, if any, party guests, so I know how it feels to invite people and not have them show).

Going to this party would be mutually beneficial for you and the socially awkward host.

You can always bring a book or tinker with your mobile phone in case you'd be ill at ease around the other guests, or at least stick with the guests you know.

I know this advice is a bit general, but that's all I could think of.
