Anyone else got probs? If i know somone can hear me in the toilet I can't do the biz... i get nervous in the toilet thinking they can hear me and i dont know why i care that they can and i have to stop and hold it in :(

at home i flush the toilet to make a load of noise then quickly get it over with so no one can hear... i just say i like a clean toilet so i flush twice....

i dont like using urinals, but this goes beyond anxiety. Loads of people hate using toilets in public, its just a horrible experience

But all you have to remember is its natural, nobody can think badly of you, because everybody has to do it :D

lol.... I flush it first before I go to, to make a noise so I can then go. I dont do this at home, but I do in public toilets.

I think this is normal for most people..... there's only a few family members I wouldn't mind if they heard me do my thing on the bog.

Otherwise I do feel uncomfortable.....

Espescially at uni, we have cubicles right next to eachother and you can hear everything! (i.e. trousers unzipping! seriously they may as well be in the same room)

Anyway, I've noticed when I'm in there and someone comes next door they don't do anything until there is nobody next door, or they pee very slowly......

Of course there are those that just let it go completely but thats just them!

E.g I have these friends who are like "lets go toilet together" and one goes on either side and I swear they must hear everything?! But I spose its just one of those things that if you purposely chose to not allow it to be an issue it will become less and less of one.

I suggest just letting it go (try it out) it's good because once you start theres no turning back... even if it's embarassing just do it!

This happened to me once when I was mid-wee and my cousin walked into the kitchen (where all is audible esp. at that time there was no window at the top of the door!) so he could hear everything and I couldnt do nothing about it because the wee was coming out lol so I just sat there with my hands to my head waiting for it to end... just my luck that I had drunk quite a lot of water that day so it lasted quite long!

Gosh that was embarassing...... but anyway moral of the story is, if it were to happen again I would still be embarrased but less so. He's already heard me wee so it wont be as shocking for him...

I know theres advice in this post somewhere 8O hopefully you can find it! I suggest you try and get over it with your family members that you live with first and foremost just so as to make life easier for yourself

You wont really have to worry about other people outside the house but you could always try to conquer that step once you feel ready... or actually even if you don't feel ready, give it a try, what's the worst that can happen?

I always find these things easier with people I don't know because I know I will never see them again so it doesn't matter what they think does it?

Anyway this is way long...... hope it helps a bit

This is a very interesting thread.

Yea, you have to flush down all the stds and whatnot before you go in a public restroom. Otherwise, if you get splash-back, it will haunt you for the rest of the day.

All public toilets tend to be revolting, certainly where I live anyway. There is no way I would use one unless I really had to. Like scatmantom said, it is a horrible experience for everybody, not just for people with SP.

I've adapted by learning to be very quiet in the cubicle, and sneak in and out with the minimum of people noticing... I must be a toilet ninja :D

I feel kinda anxious to go to the toilet in a public toilet if there are people in the cubicles next to mine, or just lining up outside to wait their turn. When i go it comes out fast and i think the people in the next cubicles can hear it, so i have to hold it in for a bit and try to let it out gently then it doesn't make a noise. But i don't flush the toilet before i go though. And at home i don't have to hold it for a while because i feel more comfortable there, and i don't think my family can hear it anyway coz the bathroom is closed in, unlike public toliets where there are still open spaces at the bottom and top of the doors. If you get what i mean.

It's not really a 'funny' issue sensitive. This is a genuine problem called 'shy pee'. It can be a real inconvenience to those that have this problem. I myself find it difficult to go when someone is standing right next to me, I think it is a common problem for those who are socially anxious.

I try to go when no one else is in the next cubicle. If someone comes in i put toilet paper in the bowl so i don't make any pee noise. Also if the person next to me is really loud i tend to stick my fingers in my ears so i can concentrate on my own thing. I think it's rude to be so loud in a public toilet. Yesterday some women came in and she was farting and there was splashing, very gross. And there was another time when i swear it was a horse pissing next door rather than some chick. But i spose, when you gotta go, ya gotta go.
