Gamers thread

If comfort only adds up to your anxiety, how the hell playing video games gonna help you in any way. @BlackPuma I will not even dwell into this whole, everything is meaningless, ohh it has no point, ***** attitude. Go tell that to children in Africa. I would even say that many guys get addicted to games and that develops some sort of anxiety because all they want to do is play games.

With all due respect, let's take a step back and calm down - and let's not use the incredible suffering of others as loaded arguments as leverage, this is a discussion about gaming.

I think we're having a misunderstand about what I meant by that statement. When I say 'everything is a waste of time' I mean that nothing has an objective value, merely a subjective value, bestowed by individuals. I'm not suggesting we should stop caring either, I'm suggesting the exact opposite.

If you as an individual think gaming is a waste of time, I'm not going to contest that as that is your opinion. However, you seem to suggest that gaming is an inherent waste of time, and inherently damaging for everyone across the board. That's a generalization and incredibly demonizing - not to mention incorrect. There are millions upon millions of perfectly sane and healthy adults with jobs who play games. Those that become addicted are the exception.

And if someone actively uses games purely as a means to avoid improving their social phobia or any other affliction, which I agree is bad, it's the fault of the user not the media they're doing it with. Nobody, not even social phobics, get to just defer responsibility like that when it concerns recreational activities they partake in per their own agency.

You do know that there are also a ton of woman that love video games. I also think that BlackPuma didn't mean life was meaningless. Also you have to remember children in Africa have a different culture and values. So what they value is much different then us. I don't see why it's a problem to love video games I would rather be a gamer then an alcoholic or drug addict.

There is nothing wrong with it and it reliefs alot of stress and anxiety. So its totally opposite of what Lainy is saying.

Yes, it just adds to their anxiety. And if people live on welfare or any other kind of financial support they can just easily get lost in games and develop more of these ''problems''. That is why it is hard to find solid boyfriend.
That is a huge generalisation, Lainy.
Have you had a bad experience with a former boyfriend who got 'lost in games' and was a 'basement dweller' because of it?

If you are having a difficult time finding a 'solid boyfriend' because many of the guys around you are basement dwellers getting lost in playing games, then maybe you need to find a new branch of friends to hang out with. Just sayin' :)

I hope you dont think we're ganging up on you or anything Lainy. I think the best thing you can take from this is that whatever it is that you find important or fun is really all your business. We cant tell you that what you do with your time is a waste either really. So if you dont like video games then dont play them or date anyone that does, thats your choice. Id say the biggest waste of time is time spent worrying what others think of us. I feel that if we could really just stop caring about that it would solve a lot of our social anxiety issues.

This thread isn't a debate on video games, it is about their enjoyment, please feel free to start another thread on this topic in more detail.

Back on topic please everyone.

Played some good 'ol fashion Euro Truck Simulator 2 in VR yesterday. I got sooo many fines. It amounted to a thousand Euros I think. Nearly flipped it too.

Driving trucks is a hard.

Been playing Fallout 4 again, I've been modding it. Also I picked up Shadows of The Colossus which is amazing, and Halo 2 for the original xbox :D. I've been building my collection lately and have a pretty good sized collection now :).

You can mod it? Does it disable trophies?

In the light of the Shadows of the Colossus, are you excited for The Last Guardian?

**This is assuming the regulations from 1996 haven't changed much in the past twenty years.**

Low-rise exclusive residential zoned areas have maximum building heights of 10 to 12 meters. Kyoto’s historical districts have a maximum building height of 15 meters. These rules apply to both wooden and reinforced concrete structures. For the purpose of my little study I'll take the average and just use 11 meters (~ 36 feet) for Red's home in Pokemon Red and Pokemon Fire Red for game boy advance. This puts the first floor of the home at 18 feet (~ 5.5 meters) and the second floor at another 18 feet since there is no evidence for an attic in either game. Why someone would need 18 foot tall ceilings is beyond me, but okay.

I dug deeper and found that for residential homes in Japan the maximum height of each step that's allowed in a staircase is 23 cm (~ 9 in.). Take a look at the staircase in Red's home in Pokemon Fire Red for Game Boy Advance; there are a total of 8 steps, assuming the eighth step leads straight to the floor of the second level of the house. Keeping that in mind, 72 inches equate to 1.82 meters (6 feet). The staircase in Fire Red is approx. 6 feet apparently.

I took an image of Red's home from Pokemon Red for the original Game Boy and zoomed in on the image to count the number of pixels from the bottom of the house to the roof. Red's house is 146 video game pixels tall.

Keep in mind I'm using 36 feet (11 meters) for the height of Red's house in the game. 36 feet is the same thing as 432 inches (10.972 meters) so take 432 and divide it by the number of video game pixels (in this case: 146) and you get a total of 2.958 inches (7.513 cm.). Take the height of each individual pixel (2.958) and multiply it by the number of pixels from the top of the house to the bottom (146) and you get 431.868 inches, which is the same as 35.989 feet (10.969 meters). <--- The average I stated earlier.

Wikipedia.org states that average height of an adult Japanese male is 172 cm (~ 5 ft. 7 in.) and from the video game Red stands only 51 pixels high. I stopped counting at Red's hairline and didn't count the pixels of his hat. A few steps later and we can calculate Red's total height at 5.369 feet (1.636 meters). The same as 5 feet 3 inches I think. The game never gives a real view of how tall Red is, only the squashed version from the birds-eye perspective the video game gives the player so I feel he could be taller than this.

Please, please, please don't quote me on any of this. This isn't official by any means, I did it for fun :sarcastic:
