What's the "distraction" bit about? It sounds interesting. Distraction, I believe, is the key. Cognitive therapy has not worked that well for me.

I'm sorry for the late reply.

Distraction is one of the most unique coping technique for Panic Attacks. Most of my readers has benefited from this technique.

Have you ever been so deep in thoughts that you forgot about something? For example, you're talking to your friend about something and suddenly someone, say a waitress, interupts the conversation between your friend asking whether do you want to order something. After you have made your order and dismissed her, your friend and you have lost the train of thought or forgotten what both of you said previously. The distraction technique is quite similar to the analogy.

I too have used distraction as a personal coping technique for panic attacks. I've found it most useful in learning to deal with a panic attack before it happens.

However, I've found cognitive behavioral therapy to be very useful as well, in addition to relaxation techniques, and learning to cope with stress in general. Personally I found that as I worked towards becoming panic attack free, it was a gradual process with a few breakthroughs. The effects of things like making sure I ate a good diet, making sure I was getting enough sleep, and learning to relax in general, were all cumulative.

Over time, all of those things improved how I dealt with panic attacks, until I was panic attack free.

Well,

Among some of the specific treatments, psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy come top of the list along with meditation and relaxation therapy that have often been used to relax the nerves. Psychotherapy is really important because it helps in minimizing your fear and it has often been found that psychotherapy alone can get you out of thee disorder.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy on the other hand helps people to handle and deal with their panic symptoms and uses various forms of breathing and muscle relaxation techniques. Patients are also constantly reminded that panic attacks do not cause heart attacks, because this is a common feeling among all who suffer from panic attacks.
