For those on medications...

Does anyone know if primary care doctors will prescribe antidepressants? My health insurance doesn't cover psychiatry but I want to be back on antidepressants but not sure if any other doctor other than a psychiatrist will prescribe them.

Paxil 40mg, and it works surprisingly well. I feel like a different person now, or rather I feel like who I should have been all along.

hey..what medication are you on and is it working well?

i know you didnt ask me but i personally am on Zoloft and it definitely helps for depression and curbs the anxiety a little bit but not all the way. Benzo's like Klonopin, Valium, Xanax, etc. practically make my SAD go away but are habit forming and addictive so usually arent prescribed constantly for SAD. I love your quote encantress.

Because this is the SAD forum, I assumed you were asking about how Paxil worked for my Anxiety, which is how I answered.
If you were asking about how it works for depression, I can't say because I am Bi-Polar and take mood stabilizers as well as SAD meds.

I took Zoloft about 2 years ago but it didn't really helped my depression. I do have anxiety due to depression and it did help somewhat. How does the xanax work for you and how much do you take?

Yeah. It was mostly regarding depression. Anxiety is just secondary to it. When you said Paxil made you into a different person, what did u mean by that?

actually ive only taken klonopin but i hear xanax is much better. I take 1 to 2 mgs and it only helps with anxiety not depression. I though klonopin was incredible i felt like hell had frozen over because i had no anxiety. did you happen to drink while taking zoloft?

Even though you asked him, it happens to be the case that I take Xanax as well. I can take .5mg pills up to 3 times a day, but I go for 2 days or sometime without taking any at all. Xanax totally kills all of my anxiety when I take it, but I try to avoid it because I don't want to build tolerance and I am slightly afraid of dependence.

This conversation is kinda getting confusing. . .

I always felt like my true personality was caged by my psychological problems, I could never be who I wanted to be. But the Paxil dulled the hell out of my Social Phobia and I was able to express my true feelings to people in conversations, where previously my heart sped up almost every time I passed somebody on the way to class.
I am of those legendary, extremely medicine respondent persons.
