Exercise

Does anyone here find exercise to help their anxiety? Do you have a routine?

I'm one of those lazy people who hates exercise! I will clean, cook, do yardwork, etc, but exercising for the sake of exersizing? Blah! Well, I am taking a class now so I have to. Today I really exerted myself and I really think it may have helped chill me out a bit. Maybe it has something to do with heartrate and getting the circulation going. I feel pretty good, though!

Yeah exercise is great. I think more intense is better for anxiety, running better than walking, sprinting better than running etc.

Exercise isn't always lifting weights and jumping on the treadmill. Dancing is a great exercise in of itself.

You could start with walking and then go to running and a good beginner strength training routine isn't very complicated. The best exercise is always the one you do, so pick something you can stick with.

hi dottie..exercise makes me feel wonderful..and empowered. And yeah, like you, many times i dread it..but i push myself and do it most every day cause it makes me feel less depressed, less anxious, more energetic and healthier. Well worth it..good luck to you :)

Starting to exercise regularly is actually one of the most important things I think I've started in the last couple of years. It makes me feel much better mood wise. I jog for like 25 minutes on most days. Most of that is jogging for a couple minutes and then walking for a minute and continuing the cycle. My social skills are as bad as ever, of course, but I think it's helped me with reduce some the psychical parts of anxiety like heart rate and butterflys in the stomach and such. It's still bad, but better than before I was exercising. But mostly it gives me more energy and it has really helped me with depression more than anything else (something scientists are starting to research). Anyway, starting to exercise is the hardest part, but if you can get over that hump and make it part of your daily routine, it's not too hard to keep going with it. And I think aerobic exercise like jogging is the most helpful. Good luck.

Exercise has never been my cup of tea, don't feel its worth it.
Muscles and being in good shape wont exactly make me look much better if I'm naturally ugly.

Actually, having a good body makes everyone look better. Kinda like saying your old rusty Pinto is the same as a Ferrari.

Yeah, I always have trouble starting my exercise but once I do, I ask myself "why didn't I start sooner?" Remembering that I thought that last time helps me get started sooner next time (if that made any sense the way I worded it...?)

I find it helps me with my anxiety a lot as well. When I get anxious, I either cry or get really mad (or both) and then I have a panic attack. Running (or other exercise) really helps me take out my anger and/or avoid a panic attack.

If you feel that way, exercise might make you feel better about yourself. You don't have to; just a suggestion :]

Yeah exercise is great for anxiety! I've just started been doing it for about 2weeks now my anxiety has improved so much!. i skipped going last night and i feel worse today.. i hate exercise. .i get so nervous while im out there.. like ppl watching me or running into people i know i also have a phobia of dogs which isnt so great.. cos they are freakin everywhere haha!. but yea its helped i just go for a 20minute walk.. well try to probably only 10min most days and it helps. so if your like me and hate doing exercise.. just aim for like a 15min walk each day..it really does help..

I've been doing a bit of yoga the last couple of days...watched some clips over youtube.. and realised thats what i use to do in my dance classes haha didnt realise it was yoga lol! doesnt seem to be helping me much but i only just started so i'll see all its doing at the moment is giving me somethng to do rather then think about my symptoms! soo i guess its a good thing..

Hmm Excellent topic! Well i started working out recently. And by working out I mean power training. Luckily I have a friend at work who trains me for free. I'm skinny by nature, but in the past 3 months i've gained 15 lbs just from power lifting! Before that it was nearly impossible for me to gain weight.

At any rate what I'm trying to say is.. excersicing can boost your energy and the way you feel about yourself. Since I've seen the dramatic change in just 3 months it makes me feel so good about myself like i'm actually achieving something. And since I'm not that attractive having a nice body will definately make up for it!

Although I'm still socially anxious, and very shy working out gives me a topic to bring up to people. I've learned alot from my friend and I like to tell others of my success even though no matter what people want to try to put u down, if you know u are succeeding that's all that matters. You can e-mail me or send me message if you want some info on power lifting trust me i've learned alot!
i agree screwdriver!..although it's really really hard to get motivated to start sometimes..but the boost of energy and the way you feel about yourself after working out..same for me, and the benefit to the way your body looks is a really cool bonus 8)

Power lifting kicks ass! What kind of weight are you throwing around in the big 3?

"When I get the urge to exercise, I lie down until it goes away."

No, but seriously, exercising definitely does help. I go out walking or running occasionally. It's best to do it in the morning to feel energized for the rest of the day.
