Doing something you are passionate about is always a good counter to social anxiety. The more you want to do something, the less you will fear. You can't really have desire and fear at the same time. If you can find something you really enjoy that puts you with other people who are also enjoying it, then it's really helpful I think. For some it may be dancing, for others it may be something completely different. The point is that it's something you really want to do and not something you dread.
