Effexor XR experience?

I got the prescription filled yesterday, 37.5 MG for my OCD. I took my first pill last night before bed. Around 3 I woke up out of a deep sleep, and I was just wired. I got back to sleep in an hour, and it happened again at 6 only this time I couldn't get back to bed.

Then I spent the entire day with severe nausea and vomiting. I don't feel sick, other than my stomach and I don't have a fever. I'm not prone to sickness at all, in fact, I haven't had a cold or flu in over three years.

Is this normal? Because this is awful! This is only the first pill, I can't imagine how I'll feel by the end of the week.

Hi Candlejack, I've been on Effexor-Xr for 8 months, 150mg, and the first few days are usually pretty bad. (I started off with 75mg) My very first day I was very nausious as well, felt like vomiting but thankfully didn't (I'm sorry u vomited!), completely loss my appetite, had weird random rashes on my legs and sweating alot at night. All of these side effects usually disappear in 2 weeks as your body gets used to the meds. In my individual experience all of the side effects except the extreme tiredness disappeared in 4 days, its really different for everybody. Sometimes you get some of the side effects later on as well, like I started getting really bad acne after a few months on the medication and my skin is itchy, not to mention I put on weight as well.

Bascially, don't worry too much about the first few days I know its awful but it will gradually disappear. Effexor has helped me so much with anxiety and managing social phobia and depression.

Sounds like one of those horror Effexor-XR stories. I take Effexor-XR 300mg I was fortunate not to suffer any side effects at all, however I was coming across from Lexapro so I think that helped a little bit. I recommend taking Effexor-XR with food, if you have a look at the info sheet or the website it recommends that. That may help with your stomach problems.

hi there, i haved been on anti-depressants since i was 16, im 27 now, i hadnt had a bad experience (apart from prozac which made my arms swell, i know its freaky!) but about 4 months ago my social anxiety,shyness,everything started to get really bad, i went to a psychiatrist who prescribed effexor xr, i think i was taking 75mg to start with. all i can say is my god that was hell, i felt like i was in a different reality, no sleep, body twitches, speech slurring and my thoughts were going a milion miles,the 1st day i took it, i scrubbed the house from top to toe in places i had never even noticed before! i thought the side effects would subside but after 1 week of huge pupils,no sleep and just feeling like i was on meth or something i went back on to my trusty lexapro. i love u lexapro! i will never be unfaithful to you again lol! apparently the withdrawls are bad. if it makes you feel freaky stop taking it, and get on something more mild asap. you have gotta see the efexor xr advertisement on you tube, i thought it was funny, they list like all of these bad side effects with like a "white picket fence lifestyle" in the background.its a headfucker!!
