Drink

Ok i,ve noticed that during many social situations i probably drink too much in order to ease my anxiety

i really envy people that can go into a social situattion and not drink and yet have fun

Recently i,ve started to drink more even when i'm not nervous, my question is how many other SP sufferers drink?

I drink in social situations to make me less nervous. Sometimes by myself but not often.

i used to drink at school too, then i put it down to wanting to upset the teachers  now looking back it was because i was so anxious

i can't drink before work cos i've got a fairly responsible job but tend to drink when i get home, i try to hide it from my partner too

I tend to use alcahol to make social situations easier. I tend to find cannabis has the complete opposite effect.

Agree completely...

Although I do find that alcahol can make me depressed at times.. being a depressant I guess that is not all that surprising..

I don't drink while going to social situations because I don't want to mess up my life more.

However I started going to night clubs and drinking so much on weekends as a small gift for me for spending the whole week facing social situations.

I don't know but it was so fun for me to be drunk. I really find my self different person at all while I'm drunk.

I can't stand the taste of alcahol, it takes me several hours of
slow drinking to get a nice buzz going.

Well, maybe it's a good thing. :)

I've been 'self medicating' recently with alcohol and it has helped me alot. I even went to a nightclub last week(i'm usually a nervous wreck in them),i had a few beers before i left the house and i went and danced without worrying about people judging me,i talked more and i had fun. Alcohol does relax me alot,i'm careful though to only use it in moderation and not let myself get too drunk.

Yea I agree, a few beers before going out on the town helps settle the nerves. I find going clubbing fine after having just a few drinks. It makes me more relaxed, I seem to calm down inside instead of constantly thinking if others are judging me.
Its strange because people have commented that im allways looking so laid back, at ease, little do they know its just a front. The only time I feel this way socially when im out after having a few drinks.

I'm really starting to find alot of people that use their Social Anxiety as an excuse to get blistering drunk... maybe it's just me. I mean, you guys already know it's a depressant and the liquid happiness is only temporary... then why do you keep drinking. :? I for one like to drink, but not to the point of a drunken stupor. I hate the feeling of getting drunk, the headaches, the throwing up, it's simply not worth it.

I agree as to grass having a negative affect for people with SA. I enjoyed it for awhile, but as soon as I started noticing my anxiety, and started taking anti-depressants, it made me all paranoid.

I suppose i do that really, i don't get blistering drunk but i do tell myself that i need to drink because of SA, i suffer from trembling hands etc in front of others during social events and that seems to go after a few drinks.. it's quite pathetic really

Hm I probably drink when the people I'm with are doing it. It's kind of random whether it's good or not, but almost no matter what, then if I'm walking home I'm getting these depressing thoughts. I also think it makes me withdraw from the things going on around me.. which is not so good. Occassionally it makes me have more fun for a while though. I also thought about drinking alone, but I've never done it. Anyway.. for me alcohol is really not a rescuer.

I can go for a few drinks in the day etc and not drink alcohol, but if i am on a night out on the town i have to drink to relax, otherwise i get paranoid or just up tight etc. Suppose its just because there are lots and lots of people around and also my friends have big personalities so i feel drowned out by them when i'm sober.

What kind of job do you have if you don't mind me asking? I'm looking for a job right now and am looking for ideas. What about everyone else...what line of work are you in?
