Does Anyone Else Think That Headhunters Are Useless?

Just venting - but I got a call from a headhunter for a job on Monday of this week. She promised to set me up with an interview for this week and was going to call me back that afternoon. Now it's Friday and she never called me back to let me know either way.

Very unprofessional!!!

Has anyone had similar experiences with job search agencies????????

In the movies, they boil missionaries alive in large iron kettles.

That seems useful.

Thanks for the replies - You would think that since they are getting paid to find you a job - they would do it. In the past, with the exception of 2temporary assignments, all the jobs that I have received have been through the companies themselves. With the massive growth of the internet, maybe these staffing agencies are becoming obsolete. I have found out that alot of the jobs agencies advertise, are taken right from company websites that do their own recruiting.

What are your thoughts???

Yeah sometimes job agencies are flooded with cowboys. I have had had a string of bad experiences with a particular agency that keeps sending me unsuitable jobs. I usually get an offer or a follow up interview wiht all my interviews except for ones with this agency. They even failed to contact me to let me know the results of one, but I knew I didn't make it so I didn't bother calling them either.

Can't speak for the situation in the US, but they can be pretty useless here in the UK. I find the smaller ones are better, because they actually compare your skills with the job vacancy and only submit your application if you are appropriately skilled. I've seen colleagues receive stacks of applications for a position, 90% of which went straight into the shredder because they were totally unsuitable for the position. That kind of thing just wastes everyone's time.

Personally I don't see them of any help. I think I have registered with one or two of them before, because earlier, I didn't had a clear concept of what they are, but I've never found a job successfully though them. Once, I did two interviews with a law firm for a secretarial position via an agency and thought I was going to be given the job, because after the first interview I was offered a second one with one of the partners and it went pretty well I believe, but I didn't get the job in the end. Thus I would say applying direct with the company is best, at least it seems to work for me.
