Do you think that Social Anxiety is a mental problem?

For me, I think that Social Anxiety is more of a past/wounded soul problem than a mental problem. I believe that we weren't not born with Social Anxiety but we had something in our past that made us like this (Bullies, society, judgement, strict parents, etc.)

What do you guys think?

It is probably a combination of a biological predisposition and also the environment. You inherit genes that make you more likely to get SA and certain triggers from your environment makes the SA kick in or not. In some cases it could be purely based on environment though or purely based on genes. Usually I think it's a combination of both.

I agree with you on the fact that you're not born with SA. The way you were brought up during childhood with your parents, and your situation growing up in school has a big effect.

SA is a mental problem which has physical symptoms. I believe that if you can somehow block the physical symptoms, you will react better mentally and eventually adjust to normal behavior.

Solution ? Propranolol.

I've done alot of research on ways to overcome SA, and I've read up on the meds available. And the one that really stands out from all other meds is Propranolol. I've based my judgment on people who have tried this drug, testimonials on this site (there is a thread of 6 pages long in the meds section which is stickied) and also on other sites. From what I have read, about 90% of people who have tried it feel overall satisfied.

I placed my order for it, should be here in a couple of weeks, can't wait to try it. For now, it's my only hope...

Most people find benzos more effective, but those should be a last resort. Propranolol personally didn't help me at all. Good luck to you though.

Well I'm afraid to try those kind of meds because I heard they make you feel like you're high or something. Just tell me if it works for you.

The only problem with Social Anxiety is the "Auto-Pilot" problem. This Auto-Pilot is like the automatic response on what should we think based on our experiences. If we can find a way on how to remove or revert that way of thinking, this Social Anxiety will be gone.

I wish one day, we'll be able to get out of this dark place.

I think some people are born with SA. Others are born with the potential and something triggers it. A few probably only have SA because something hurt them too many times.
