My mom cut my hair for years lol ... I'm always worried if I go to a hair dresser they'll do something totally stupid that will make me feel like I'm wearing a costume and not myself (ie. give me some trendy hairstyle). My current solution to the problem is to just buzz my own hair short

Yeah I also used to hate going to the hairdresser but I have solved the problem by just cutting my hair myself :) If you are a male and don't bother having a short hair I recommend to buy one of those hair cutting machines because you a) save money on the long run b) don't have to go to hairdresser, doh :p

I like getting my hair done coz afterwards my hair feels great, i haven't had it done since July last year before i went on holiday, but it's not coz i'm really really scared it's because it's expensive. But i do get abit nervous, and i sometimes don't know how to explain how i want it done and i don't really like to get my hair washed in there before the hair cut, i do like sitting infront of the mirror though coz i can see what she's doing and what the other staff and people are doing, but i don't like to look at myself, coz i can see this shyness expression on it  . The hairdressers that i have had are luckily not loud, talkative ones, they sort of ask you one question and that's it, then they just get one with your haircut and i like that

i find hairdressers always talk wayyy to much, they treat you like a baby but everyone does that to me :(

Yeah, getting my hair done was a big problem for me. I didn't got for about two years... I had started cutting my own hair but then I got sick of it and I felt like I could go so I did. It was a lot easier than I thought and I will be going back next week to do it again.

I actually get full body tremors when they have to stand in front of me and cut my bangs. I've been through several hairdressers :). I finally found a friend of mine who cut my hair when I was younger before I had this problem but apparently that didn't work. But oh well, you gotta get your hair cut and I look just plain stupid w/a shaved head.

i find some of the hairdressers tend to think you're giving them attitude or being stuck up when you're tensed up and also look tensed too. because they wonder why you don't talk so much or don't seem to want to talk when they ask you about how you want to cut the hair or simply converse with you.
yeaa.. it's real shit.

Me too! I always postpone trips to the hairdresser. I think it's because I know I have to commit myself to at least one hour of sitting in a salon, making small talk and feeling uncomfortable. And you know you can't just get up and leave in the middle of it (I often have visions of myself running out the door with half my hair cut!). I have left with my hair still wet though, I just told them I wanted it to dry naturally   But I'm soooo happy after I go, there's nothing like a fresh cut doo!

I don't mind anymore...the only thing that bothers me is the price. But I only go to one woman...I wont let anybody else touch my hair. I used to go to other people and they'd turn it the wrong color, cut it way too short, or pull on my hair too much and cause it to break off/fall out alot...I used to worry I'd walk out bald when they finished with me... but the woman I go to now does really well. She's more expensive than most hairdressers around here but it's worth it cause she's always gentle on my hair and I love the way my hair looks when she gets done with it, which makes me feel better.

WOO HOO im back..took about 10 mins in the chair and the guy doing it was really cool so it didnt bother me at all.
I think its my vanity that causes the problem...I just dont like leaving the house without product in my hair cos i think people will laugh (and based on the way my hair looked b4 it was cut i dont blame them for laughing   )

thanks for the support

Yay!
I got my hair cut on Friday! I wanted a fringe cut in, and she cut it wayyyy too short at first, and i was trying to speak up to say no, but it kinda caught in my throat. Thank god my mum jumped in and said that she didn't think i wanted it that short. Phew. so, the hairdresser kinda turned it into a sloping thing, ending and curving in slightly at the bottom of my face. It's not exactly how i was thinking i wanted it, BUT, i like it okay. : )
It was pretty embarrassing for a moment, though. She asked how i wanted it done before she started, and there was at least a five minute silence. I'm fairly sure she was glad to get rid of me at the end. -_~

i bet they love the moments of silence. They probably dont care about where every1 works or goes on holiday...so trimming som1 who wants to sit quietly is probably a welcome relieft considering the amount of crap they probably have to listen to from people in the chair.
