Crash (The Philanthropist and the Misanthrope)

A misanthrope wandered around into
A social gathering of a famous philanthropist.
His right hand firmly gripped a glass of bourbon
While his left steered him through the restless deluge.
He was not quite drunk enough to drown their sound out
So, naturally, he had to refill his glass.

Meandering to his serenity, meticulously shirking conversation,
The misanthrope bumped into the philanthropist,
Who had been fancying sips of scotch while
Entertaining his guests with jokes and riddles
Before being so rudely interrupted.

The misanthrope barely glanced at him
Muttering some mumblings under his breath,
But the philanthropist grabbed his shoulder and said,
“You having a good time?” with a wide white smile.
Now the degenerate stared at the host
Longer than obligated, smiled, and said, “Of course!”
With an equally wide, but not so bright, smile.
Because even if he hated the reeking flesh and bones
And suit of the antic in front of him,
The misanthrope was never one to shy from a dutiful response.
The philanthropist shrugged his padded shoulders
And turned back to his entertainment.

And so the party went on,
And once the miserable misanthrope was content with his blundering
He walked out the front door without a word to stumble his way home.
Likewise, the philanthropist was good enough to drive
The more befuddled of the crowd home.

But the philanthropist was too busy entertaining his court,
And the misanthrope was too busy entertaining his head,
And the good man crushed the dispirited,
And he shattered through the windshield
And they both are dead.

-----------

I actually don't like this one as much as my previous ones, but I felt I needed to get this one out there so I could clear it out of my head and start on something more fresh.

I very much like this! Very well done, very metaphoric. Do you find it hard to share poetry whether online, or in person? Personally I fear sharing poetry more than holding a simple conversation...

@Dan FC: Though I don't quite agree with the message of the piece, I thought that it was quite well done from a crafting point of view. Especially like the first two sentences of the last paragraph.

@EscapeArtist: Yeah... it's quite personal and I've had people give quite nasty comments... "I can't even read past the first few lines (i.e poorly constructed poem according to commenter)..." But not from these forums. I've never seen anyone get shot down before. Very supportive.
