Coping mechanisms?

Does anyone have or do any coping mechanisms? Like maybe wear sunglasses to kind of hide your eyes or carry a cell phone around and talk to people on it when you go out alone? Things that get you through the situation? And make you feel less uncomfortable? I have been thinking about the sunglasses thing myself.. 8)

A healthier and more effective long term method is to use coping thoughts.

I read about this in a self help book, its a reassuring thought that you repeat to yourself in your mind during a situation which gives you anxiety. It sounds kind of tacky, but it does work...and helps to get you on the right track to positive thought patterns.

I sometimes do the sunglasses thing. I somehow feel invincible with sunglasses on. haha.

Other than that, I really just end up daydreaming and thinking of different things I guess. Like I might make lists in my head or think of what I'm going to do when I get home or something. lol.

I agree w/idunoimnotcreative, what you are thinking at the time also helps or makes it worse. Maybe if we think positively while wearing glasses and talking on the phone? 8)

well thinking about i use my cigarette has a shield i spose, if i accidentally make eye contact with anyone, quickly flick my fag and then take a big drag, then exhale. and that distracts u. and if i'm buying something and have to engage in conversation i normally rub my face with my hand or scratch my head....stuff like that
