Compulsions or just being extremely distracted? (doing stuff on auto-pilot)

I've started to read up on OCD lately and find that, even though I have plenty of other symptoms, one particular compulsion of mine seems to be more related to being lost in thought, rather than having an irrational "need". I'm talking about going back and checking, up to 3 times, whether I locked the front door properly. What happens is that on my way back to the door to check, I start thinking about other stuff and do the locking on auto-pilot. When I wake up from my thoughts and find myself on the street again, I realize I don't really KNOW whether I locked the door because I didn't do it 100% consciously. Does that still count as a compulsion? (not trusting your auto-pilot in a few, particular situations). I guess the nagging thoughts part is still there, but I think this is different...

Can anybody relate to this?

I am in a similar way, I sometimes do something and in a minute I have total amnesia about if I did it or not.
