I've had similar experiences. Good teachers/professors try to get everyone involved in class conversations. I never contributed to discussion and I felt that teachers were looking at me differently, but I always assumed that it was because they knew I was very shy.

My grades have been lowered before in a few classes just because i never participated in class discussions. I was too afraid to talk in front of everyone assertively. I was like that throughout all of school, even college.

I've never felt that way before... but I have felt like they'd get bored of me. I've imagined them thinking, "She is so quiet. What a boring student. Doesn't bother to ask questions or contribute to class discussions. I like the interesting, talkative students much better." That's just my own little delusion I eventually formed into a "reality".

I think that teachers for the most part barely know I exist XD
Many of them don't know my name by the end of the semester...

Nah, I work as a teacher and I've never seen students despised - behaviour can be disliked, we will work around that where possible. We see students as people with problems like everyone else. I often find the troublesome students as likeable as anyone else.

Yeah, I feel like troublesome students are actually preferred to the introverted, socially awkward individuals.

What's funny is that this can actually be true. I've had a few teachers that didn't like me because I was shy and didn't participate in class, and then there is this other guy that is mean, talks when the teacher talks, cuts people off mid-sentence, yet the teacher likes them just because of they make the teacher feel more comfortable. In most cases, teachers have liked me because I'm a hard worker and don't disrupt class.

Sadly, teachers can be just like a lot of society. There are many people that enjoy outgoingness and hate shyness. This is the reason many guys in these forums believe that mean, outgoing guys get dates and the nice, shy guy doesn't. It's not because they are mean, it's because they talk.
