Choices and happiness

What if it's all just a choice. What if happiness is achievable. Everybody seems to be the way they are because they have no desire to change, or they're happy being the way they are. Are you happy with being unhappy?

There is an old saying that goes something like, "People tend to be about as happy or unhappy as they think they are." This would suggest that a person can choose to be happy, that happiness is a state-of-mind and controllable, although I suspect that this is much easier to say than to do.

I have a number of times been in a bad mood and through intentional effort gotten myself out of my funk and into a better state-of-mind. It may be a matter that we get ourselves into ruts where we more easily gravitate towards unhappiness, but through effort, we can change our ruts to ones that lead us more to a happy a state-of-mind. I think with practice we can more naturally gravitate towards happiness.

We are not necessarily destined to be unhappy.

Honestly i've been miserable for so long that if it all went away tomorrow i wouldnt know what to do with myself or how to act since it would change my life so much, im sorta use to working with sadness in my life with people that think they're so close to me not even knowing my true feelings and ive gotten so good at hidding them, so why bother if i didnt have this i'd find something else to worry over haha

I don't feel like it's a choice but I probably don't try hard enough to change things because I'm too afraid. When I have tried, something bad usually happens and I certainly don't forget it. It seems to be a apart of who I am and like it won't change no matter how much I try.

I could get into a better state-of-mind temporarily but since I can't control my own thoughts, it doesn't stay around. I wish there was a magic pill.

''I miss the comfort of being sad'' - a line from Nirvana's ''Frances farmer will have her revenge on Seattle''.

Almost every self-help/self-motivation book says more or less what you wrote. "Everything is in your mind, therfore everything is changeable."

 I love Nirvana! I love The Killers too! :D

The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It Lyrics

Save some face, you know you've only got one
Change your ways while you're young
Boy, one day you'll be a man
Oh girl, he'll help you understand
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it

Looking back at sunsets on the Eastside
We lost track of the time
Dreams aren't what they used to be
Some things sat by so carelessly

Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it

And someone is calling my name
From the back of the restaurant
And someone is playing a game
In the house that I grew up in
And someone will drive her around
Down the same streets that I did
On the same streets that I did

Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it

Oh no, oh no no no
Oh no, oh no no no
