Celexa?

Hello all. I've been having a rough time with my anxiety lately, work has been horrible. My boss had a talk with me last week about how my work is slipping and how I'm not focusing and I'm missing things in my reports that I never missed before. I talked to my doctor yesterday and he wants me to try Celexa. He's starting me on 20mg...although he told me to take 1/2 a pill for a week or so to get used to it, because I took Zoloft before and it made me very sick. So I took my first pill last night (1/2 pill) and so far I don't think I have any crazy side effects. I have been exhausted all day, but I also only got about 6 hours of sleep which is not a lot for me...so I don't know what to relate that to. I'm paranoid about side effects so I was hoping that there are some positive stories about this medication that others may have to share with me? Because I have read a lot of bad things about this medication that have scared me, so I'm looking to hear some positive feedback/experiences please :)

Also, I don't drink a lot, maybe a few beers/glasses of wine now and then, but I'm going to a wine tasting in a couple weeks, is this going to be a problem with the Celexa? I take the Celexa before bedtime.

Any feedback is appreciated, thanks! :)

Well I can tell you that I was on this medication the longest of all the meds I tried. And let me tell you, I have tried allot. First of all, the celexa (citalopram) helped my depression a little bit better than the other drugs out there. It did however make my anxiety a bit worse, and I was having problems sleeping at night with this one. This med gave me energy, which is weird because none of the other drugs did this. They started me out on 10mg and eventually within about 3 weeks I was taking 40mg every day. I see that you are not a "guy" so you shouldn't have the problems that I had (down south, in the nether region...). About a year ago, I was pretty stressed out with my new puppy getting a horrible disease and I thought she was going to die on me, and I wasn't sleeping very well if at all... When I brought her to the University of Minnesota Vet hospital, the vet told me that she had meningitis. So she went on talking about how expensive this would be to diagnose this, and she said it would cost between $1800. up to $2600. And that was about when I blacked out... I came too a few minutes later. I have never blacked out before, so I am not sure if it was because of the celexa or not? I automatically assumed that it was, so I took myself off of it completely and never looked back again. That was my experience with the drug. I hope this helps!

Caveat: everyone reacts a little differently to psych meds. What follows is my experience.

Celexa works for anxiety at the higher levels, starting with 30mg/day. At 40mg, the anxiety is completely gone. Unfortunately, it is replaced by a comfy apathy that doesn't really help me accomplish much in my life.

A moderate amount of alcohol is not a problem on Celexa. However, a binge will give you the hangover o' death the next day. Major dizziness, weakness, headache, blah blah blah. Naturally, Celexa makes you want to drink more. ;)
