Carpet fitters in my home

I know that may seem a bit of a stange subject heading in a SP forum, but it'll all make sense soon...

I live on my own. This thursday I'm having a new carpet fitted in my living room. I'm really looking forward to having it laid as I've just decorated the room and the carpet is the final touch. Anyway, I'm actually a bit anxious about what I'm gonna do with myself for the few hours (could be less) they are here! I won't be able to go on my computer or play video games because I've got to take them all out of the living room while they fit the carpet. What can I do to look/seem busy? Also should I try and chat with them or just let them get on with it? It's little things like this that only people on a forum like this could understand!

I've been in that sort of situation way too many times. Again just yesterday, when I had people over working on the fridge.

It's always good to keep an eye on people working in your home if you can, but of course staying in the same room and staring at them isn't very practical. I'd recommend finding reasons to wander through or periodically ask some inane question about the work (just to remind them you're there really) but that's about it.

If I can't be at my computer, a book would be my next choice. Or if it's next to the kitchen, maybe you could be preparing a meal than needs a lot of time.

read some magazines

wash dishes

balance your check book

stand in the corner with a hatchet and giggle hysterically

just seemingly normal, routine stuff that makes you appear busy
