Careers

I'm going to be 24 next month and I quit University 5 times due to Social Phobia.

I think I'm old for this now, like, I'm going there and people are much younger than me as classmates...

And I don't like any career...

Anyone ever been at the same situation?

Maybe you don't know what you like because you haven't tried anything.

Lock me up, then.

When you have come to this point, this is no longer about what you like or don't like. Pick a career you can tolerate that you're halfway good at, and stick to it. No one likes their job anyway, and the people who say they do are liars who should be thrown into jail.

Don't believe this. This is a cop out and you are giving up on yourself completely. The belief that "everyone hates their job" is a lie. While MOST people hate their job probably, I love mine.

I have been in the same boat where I did not know what the hell it was that I would do and I thought that every job out there was miserable...but then I found a career (social work) that has made me VERY HAPPY and is giving me a nice chunk of cash too (most people think there is no money in this profession, but there is some). Try many different things, even things that you think you won't like, and see if they are fun. If they are fun, continue to do them, and see if there is a way you can make money off of them. Also, you don't have to go to college to make a living, but it does increase your odds of success.

My advice is keep trying away till you find what it is you love. You will find something if you keep working at it, and do not compromise! If you work at something you love, your life will benefit greatly from it!

Finally, follow your gut, even if it seems unreasonable. Usually your "gut" instinct is right! Good luck and keep at it!

I always think about social interactions and start to hate the carrer.

I was doing computers enginnering, but I'm not into that, it was only because of social phobia.

Thanks!

What do you want to do? if it requires college, then please stick to college. College isn't easy, but you have to drudge on. I graduated college, but am going back to community college for a new degree, lol. I am 26 years old- and it's not old to go back. I have people in their 30s and 40s in my classes. And I always recall the oldest clasmate I ever had at my first college: she was in her mid 70s - at least!! She said she had no plan to get a career, but she just wanted to accomplish going to college and graduating.

Is it possible for you to do a p/t job you might enjoy and take a few classes? Go at your own pace and don't take it too, too serious. Actually enjoy your assignments and learn something. And if you make a good grade, that's the icing on the cake. Go in with some ease, but work hard.

My advice is to find something you hate, work yourself to be bone, avoid developing close relationships with humans that might get in the way of your career. Eat badly and hopefully one day you'll mercifully drop over dead. At least that's what works for me.

I'm self-employed (web software developer) so yeah it's not really a job in any traditional sense as I don't go anywhere and it has no set hours and I basically do what I want (and still end up too lazy to work many hours), but I make money.

I like teaching little kids, but elementary school teachers get paid so bad it's not funny. I even know someone who has to take another job at KFC, it's just that bad.

Google says: http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/layouthtmls/swzl_compresult_national_ED03000010.html

Median $49,979 is extremely good. It's two and a half times my income, and I'm not exactly starving with broadband, a car and a nice apartment in a good town.

Is making a fortune so you can eat out at fancy restaurants every night, or however it is people blow their money, really worth doing something 8 hours a day that you don't like?
