camping out for rock/metal concert

In a month I'm going to be going to my very first concert.
It's a Dir En Grey concert not far from where I live and I would love to be front row but that's a problem because I'm extremely shy.

Firstly, I don't talk to anyone because it's too painfully awkward, I've been like this (and friendless) for years so this will be my first real social event in a long time. I want to be there to experience the music and you know, get out... but doing something like this is way out of my comfort zone. (Which I should probably be taken out of more often anyway.)

So I'll be camping out at the venue for 1 or more days to ensure I'm get a place in front row. Thing is, people usually go with groups of friends. I mean, you really need someone to watch out for you when you sleep. (You have to sleep in shifts, take turns.) Also I'd need someone to save my place while I get something to eat or use the restroom. Well I don't have any friends or people that could be there with me.

I can just imagine getting there, everyone in their groups. Me just sitting there alone for the entire wait. Maybe they'd ask me about myself and I'd just blank out. I have terrible self esteem and I know it's obvious to everyone.

Once I'm inside the place, I'm afraid I won't look right. I won't know what to do with my arms. Am I suppose to be smiling the whole time? Am I suppose to bob my head or move my body. (Sounds embarrassing.) I have no idea what it's like. What if I make eye contact with the performers? I mean I'm going to be front row.

Maybe I just shouldn't go. I don't want to pass up this concert because I really like the music. Anyone ever do something like this? Does anyone have any experience camping out and attending concerts?

BTW, in this video these fans are camping out for The Jonas Brothers...

so I guess I should expect something like that? It seems absolutely terrifying. Though the fans will probably be a lot different because the music is much different. ( http://www.imeem.com/enedwaith/playlist/pNaVJcxI/dir_en_greywithering_to_death_music_playlist/ ) I think a lot of the hardcore goths will be there so I'm a little scared about what they'll think of me because I'm totally not into dark clothing or anything "goth". I have no idea what I'd wear to an event like that since clothes seem super important. I walked by a line for My Chemical Romance and everyone was dressed the same. I don't know if people are like this but I'm also afraid the fans and groupies will try to challenge me by asking questions about the band or something to see if I'm really a fan.

Thanks for reading.

I'm a big concert fan...and I've certainly done the overnight camping out thing! I would seriously advise against camping out if you are alone. It's extremely dangerous, cold, dirty, uncomfortable...and there's absolutely no need to do it. It's completely pointless. Just turn up early on the day of the event and line up. You'll get to the front, no problem.

If I'm alone I usually go to the front and lean on the railing waiting for the band to come on. There's no need to feel self conscious. No one cares who you're with once the show starts, it's all eyes forwards, staring at the group! It's extremely crushing to be front centre, but if you stand to the stage left or stage right, you'll still get a great view and will be able to see.

To keep your place (i.e. to avoid having to go to the restroom) drink no caffeine at all on the day. In fact, drink very little on the day. Take some water in with you (you may have to smuggle it, depending on the venue) and sip small amounts in the build up. Start drinking more when show time comes. Take some mints to keep your mouth moist.

Above all...enjoy yourself! You'll have a great time :D
