I am looking for an app that will count body fat. Is there such a thing? I don't want a gadget ... I saw one at the gym. I am wondering if there is an app that can do the same thing.:question::question:

I'm sure you could find an app that calculates your BMI, if that's what you mean.

If you actually want an accurate measurement of your % body fat, it's a pretty involved process that must be done physically with a lot more tools than a cell phone.

I agree. I think the most reliable way is you being examined physically. I do admit that fitness app works for some but an actual examination will be better.

You want to know how I got these scars?
Calculating your actual body fat via an app wouldn't be too accurate I would think.
The app would be simply taking a guess based on the numbers you feed it.

If you want your actual body fat % then the best way is to have your readings taken correctly with a skin fold test. This is done with specifically designed calipers in certain places on your body.

I took a lot of peoples body fat measurements with calipers over a decade at the gym where I worked and I can tell you that every ones body (and body fat) is different to some degree.

Thats why I think an app where you feed numbers into it to give you a percentage wouldn't work so well. Every now and then someone comes out with a new gimmick to test body fat percentage but they cant beat the skin fold test.

Of course if it's BMI that you mean then thats entirely possible.

An app alone wouldn't be accurate. Maybe the doctor takes measurements then plugs the data into the app and the app is a glorified calculator.

If you don't care about accuracy then you can google image search something like "male body fat percentage" and compare yourself to the pictures.

There are also ways to work it out at home without equipment but it's not as accurate as using equipment. There's a method where you pinch skin folds and measure them and there's another one where you input data like the width of your waist and stuff. Just google "calculate body fat at home"

Seeing someone who has equipment and knows how to use it is the best way

I've heard of scales that use electricity to calculate body fat % but I've heard they aren't accurate. Apparently it will tell you different things depending on how hydrated you are

I suggest for your not to depend too much on apps. Physical examination and testing is still more accurate. Although, I am not saying that apps works less.
