Being awkward in public places

I just went to books-a-million and I love books so I love this store I just feel so awkward when other people are down the isles to the point I will avoid the isle or leave even if there's something I wanted to look at on that isle. Example: I wanted to look down the comic book isle but because there were people in the isle I kept avoiding it which made me stay even longer and it made me so mad :/ I have a hard time looking people in the eyes which makes it hard being around other people, does anybody else have this problem?

I just if I could get over that feeling of awkwardness I feel like I could finally get on with my life and get my GED and my license and get a job. ::(:

You're not the only one, insanewoman. I will purposely avoid an aisle if there's too many people in it, or if there's someone close to an item I want to get.

This can be more of a personal space intrusion rather than a social anxiety problem, as most people would have it, but I do agree that for people with SA it's heightened because of pre-existing issues.

OMG that's exactly what I do! It sucks cause I really want to look in the store but I can't cause there's too many people :/ I wish I could have the whole store to myself.

Oh well I think it might be both, could it be both?

When approaching people in an aisle that I wish to peruse,I attempt to make my face bigger by the facial act of gurning. In hopes this will scare them off.
My aim is to give off a strong enough odious vibe so as to disperse blockages.
This works best with families if you make a weirdo face to the mother.A spooked mother moves the crowd along quicker than usual due to their protective tendencies.
I also find that walking a round with a limp wrist in a sports shop provides easy access to anything you wish to view.

Oh well I think that would just embarrass me more lol

I tend to avoid places like that, not specifically ailes though, but ques can put me off. If I know I'll have to pay for something with a long que behind me, I'll back out, unless I REALLY want something. Anything I can do passively, like perusing a shop by aile I find doable. The only remedy in the end is to keep exposing yourself to it and it will become the norm and less alien to you. Use the item you want as the lure. Keep concentrating on how much you like said item and how happy it makes you feel and harness that positive energy. Just a thought.

I'm the same way especially with the going to pay for stuff.

Yea I'm hoping so but I still prefer to be at home most of the time and being depressed a lot doesn't help :/

Hang in there! This can be beaten, just keep remembering that it's only a your perception that there is a problem. I know it's hard, particularly when you are in a depression spiral, but that is something I try hard to cling on to. All the best Woman389 (I don't want to refer to you as insane, lol).

Thanks I appreciate the support! And hopefully it will be beaten I just wish it would hurry up lol

lmao ok but you can refer to me as Insanewoman389 I don't mind I mean I did choose the name ;D
