Bad Memory???

Spending a lot of time by myself makes me kind of distant and dreamy, because I don't have to focus or concentrate or 'think on my feet'

Yeah, I agree with that too. I think it is important (especially if you have SP) to concentrate what is going on around you rather than what is going on within you.

I think that there is a major hurdle in recovering from SP.

For example, when someone is talking to you, rather than thinking how you should reply, actually listen to what they are saying (your response will come automatically). I know that sounds difficult (and it is), but I believe it is all linked to getting in the habit of thinking externally, seeing what is going on around you. If you can practice this and make improvements on noticing more things that are actually happening rather than listening to your imagination then the conversations will become easier.

Hope that makes sense.

Mmmm... naive? I'd say more hopeful than anything. So does this mean you have been diagnosed? If so what was the process like? I am going to get mine underway tomorrow. Well your theory is more than i have Nadine that's for sure. I might do some more reading about it before my appointment tomorrow so i am completely prepared and if i get resistence - ie fobbed off, i can present an informed argument. You know what Nadine i hope your theory is actually right - it would make things easy for once. Here's to hope. Okay i will keep in touch and i'll tell you how my appointment goes tomorrow and what my psychologist has to say.
By the way did or do you remember noticing any symptoms of this from your childhood?

Hey Redlady,

Im sorry my response took so long I didnt realise you had responded, No I havent been diagnosed with ADD I am waiting to see a specialist in September, but like you, I have a heck of a lot of the symptoms and yes it does go back to my childhood, they say if it doesnt then its not likely to be ADD/ADHD. have you had any feedback yet from your psychologist???

GOD!!!!!! COULD SHE BE ANY MORE UNHELPFUL!!!! Yeah I would just leave it up to the specialist, Cant wait to here what mines going to say, I know you did the test and had high tendencys towards ADD, but could you honestley relate to all/most of the facts on there? if so then I think that is a question that is worth getting answered!!! When you are working/ if you are working, do you find that everything is one big rush???

My worst trait

I have always been too absentminded or having constant flashes of memory of something I forgotten. Its probably not a symptom of SP because that disorder doesn't occur in that part of the brain from what I read about the biology of SP. I think its more of a personality trait than a symptom of a mental disorder. :) Even though, when you're nervious, you can forget almost anything and if it is a bad memory, your mind trys to repress that memory so you can move on with the rest of life. The common loss of memory happens to everybody sometime during the day, so don't feel to bad for having a bad memory. Trust me, I would lose my head if it wasn't attach to my neck.

bad memory

hi nadine,
i have a really bad memory aswell. For example when im trying to have a conversation i'll forget titles of films or actors names, street names, shop names, the list is endless.. its really frustrating and totally embarrassing. people's intelligence is kinda rated on their ability to have a good conversation and if i cant remember important pieces of information i sound like an idiot. For a test i learnt of by heart the countries of the world and the capitol city of each and writing this now i know i cant tell u what more than half of them are! my boyfriend is used to this side of me, but i hate it when i have to say 'you know that guy who starred in that movie... and i know people i work with think im ditzy because of it. i hate being like this.
i hope it is related to SP. do you think taking a natural medicine like ginseng could help?

i have a memory disorder, and its realy not fun. My spelling is realy bad, and my math. If a teacher were to call on me i wouldn't know the answer and then the social phobia comes into the picture.

I'd get embarressed that i wouldn't know the answer so i just freeze up/start crying. Then if i do cry i'd get emberessed about that and end up not going to school for the next week. then when i get back i'll be so far behind i'll be even more emberessed that i dont get it so i dont ask for help because i'm to much trouble. its like a never ending cycle.

So, since i just turned 16 i've dropped out of school and i'm working on getting a GED (hopefully) i dont even know if i can do that. It reallly sucks, i get it, i spend hours working on my math, then the next day i cant even remember what i was studying on.

I'll remember conversations or an event verbatim for years. But blank at others things, like names and anything to do with numbers, like dates. Also I get caught alot walking into a room and forgetting what I was going to do. My mind's a spooky place. :?

I am talking more than that though, a genuinally worrying bad memory, forgeting things wjhen your not anxious..... Like when in the shower "Have I shampooed my hair"?

Hmmm....not to worry about that.

How about forgeting your name, your phone number, your birth date, or your adress ?

I get that alot when I get asked by people, or when I get to sign official acts.

eg: The day I went to make an appointment to the psychiatrist they asked my adress and I just froze there and did'nt knew what to say...I couln't remember my adress like I never knew it ...I was about to have a panick attack.

Or the time I made a new subscription with connex they asked for my mobile phone number and couldn't remember it at all so they had to check it up on the computer...really fu*king embaresing.

So don't worry about that shampoo that much, it can be a lot more worse
