Bad Counseling Experiences..?

So, my counselor acts like I don't even need her. Maybe she's right? She just basically says that I need to get on meds. I don't really like meds, but will possibly get on them. I feel like she should be giving more advice than that though. Am I wrong or..? But, I don't know if I should just stop counseling or ask for a different counselor.

I was just wanting your thoughts & seeing if anyone had any bad experiences of their own.

Maybe you should seek a different counselor. Therapy isn't all about meds; it's also about mental and psychological healing and growth. Unfortunately some counselors just want to sedate their patients with meds and be done with them; makes their job easier.

I get psychotherapy recovering in rehab - cognitive, speech & language, and the very best physiotherapy which is very limited in facilities, compared to my usual gym. Most patients are elderley stroke sufferers in wheelchairs.

Also occupational therapy for work in hospital. Xbox games and wii boxing. All of 'em are pointless, and the crucial need is to set me free to get back on course. External counselling is quarterly home visits. Empty and useless.

I had some form of counseling a couple of years ago & before & I had the same experience why are you here. They didn't even mention meds to me. Whether it was because i wasn't being totally upfront with them about how my (SA/SP-shyness) has affected me making intimate relationships with the opposite sex or what i don't know but i would try another counsellor.:)

It is interesting 'cause some therapists will push the meds on you and others won't want to prescribe you any even if you ask for them. This doesn't seem like a good fit, so if possible seek another therapist.

As to my experiences. I have had incompetent therapists, in particular when it came to treating my OCD, which was discouraging at the time. Still, even incompetent therapists may be able to give some valuable info. and help. That is what I am told anyway. I have to give people a chance.

i agree with laure15. therapy is way more than meds. if you have doubts seek other advice from another counselor.

She sounds like a lazy one. I unfortunately had one of those and wish somone had suggested finding another one. A lot of time was wasted :/
You should find another one if you don't want to waste a lot of your time.:)
