Update on the Avert/Secure experiment
Well, much to my relief the medication is still working well. I've tried some things with mixed results. I've found that the 2mg of the Avert pill works ok by itself without the wipes, but I still sweat from my face/forehead. The secure wipes do not work well for me alone. The sweating is reduced, but it is still there and noticeable.
I've been taking only 2mg of avert along with the wipes, and it has been working really well. I tried 4mg of the avert without the wipes and my dry mouth was much worse.
Ive settled on one 2mg Avert pill in the morning and one secure wipe that I run along my hairline, forehead, and neck. Yesterday I was the godfather in a baptism and I was really nervous about standing up in front of a full church. Normally I would have been dripping - soaked - raining from my face. Since I was so nervous I went ahead and used two secure pads along with the 2mg pill. I was bone dry.
After the baptism I went to the outdoor after party wearing a suit and tie in 85 degree heat and I only had minor sweating. I should have been sweating - everyone else was sweating too. It was normal, which is exactly what I think we are all after.
Today I used only one secure wipe, no pill. I had no interest in any dry mouth today as I was hung over from the party yesterday. The single secure wipe was not really very effective. I was sweating again - but not dripping like I used to.
So, I think I'm settling on my original plan, which is one 3% secure wipe and one 2mg Avert pill in the morning. On stressful days Ill use an extra wipe. 4mg of Avert produces more dry mouth than I want to deal with, so I'll pay the extra $$ for the wipes.
Also, as a note to contact lens wearers, well, put in your lenses BEFORE you handle the Secure wipes. I got contact lenses again a few days ago after a 5 year break from them. If you put your fingers on your secure wipes and then put in your contacts you will be sorry. I used the wipes, rinsed my hands, and then put in my lenses. It was painful and it mildly dilated my pupils. Not fun.
