Yes. This is becoming a big problem for me. It's mostly when I get up from sitting down somewhere, but it can suddenly come over me like a wave. At the same time my eyes don't seem to focus either. I went to the doctor recently and he diagnosed me with depression and anxiety saying that dizziness can be a symptom of it. He suggested meds, but I'm yet to take any. Someone suggested that this could be low blood pressure, but I've yet to get my blood pressure taken.

yeah, JWH, I used to get that dizziness when I stand up after sitting a lot - and when I think about it, I started getting it at the same time as I started getting SA (a few years ago)

I still have bad SA but don't really get the dizzy spells any more - they jsut seem to clear up by themselves

its all symptoms of anxiety (unless its heavy meds)

dizzyness, choking, breathing problems, fainting,vomiting..etc..

all caused by ourselves worked up by our own anxiety.

I used to be sure I was dying so many times, one day though something just snapped and stopped me listening to that dumb inner vioce now, I just ignore it and know there is nothing wrong, helped me alot to overcome anxiety attacks

Dizziness and fainting episodes can be caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain which comes about during anxiety attacks. The lack of oxygen and caused because of breathing to quickly. This doesn't seem to make a lot of sense but its true. The reason is that our red blood cells lose their ability to attach oxygen to them in the absence of carbon dioxide.
There is, thankfully, a simple but effective solution. The answer lies in controlling one's breathing. By slowing down your breathing - even holding you breath for brief periods - the problem goes away quickly. I have heard some people say that their specialist had told them to count while breathing under these circumstances, so many seconds on the inward breath (? 8) and so many on expelling breath (?10).

The thing is, I get dizzy when I'm not in the least bit stressed. I get no dizziness when I'm in social situations or places that make me anxious. It's just when I get up from inactivity. It's really starting to worry me as I can't go from room to room without feeling light-headed.

I had dizzy for the spectrum when i was younger but I guess that's not what you meant

I think Johnie used to get this alot but I'm not sure what can be done. Sorry I can't be arsed to read back through all your posts Jane but arent you in a period where you have to make a decision about work or Uni etc? If so maybe it's a form of anxiety from that which is buried or something. I think most psychosomatic (sp?? soz) problems are supposed to be (if i remember correctly) from deeply buried anxiety which is 'trying to find a voice' (ick... sorry but I'm tired and can't think of another way to put it)

I dunno, I'm probably talking out of my arse but it was a thought.

Hi Jane,
That sounds suspiciously like low blood pressure, but of course, only a Doctor could confirm that. I used to get a little of that too.

Yeah, that's right Johnie did have a similar issue - I think I posted in that thread too.

Right again. There's a lot going on right now, but I'm still as relaxed as ever. At the moment it's mostly a 2 week uni course I'm worried about. After that I've given myself half a year to sort my life out. Though, that's not as stressful as there are no goals yet! Could the results of anxiety. That's the angle the doctor tried to take.

Blood pressure pending...

Stress does seem to be an answer for everything.... at least everything unexplained. Maybe cos you're relaxed the anxiety is being deeply surpressed hence the dizziness..... Maybe because you have capitalist beliefs you are really a communist!!! Sorry .... I hope the blood tests help and you can find the cause and treat it. Dizziness sounds shite (are you blonde? sorry again) Anyway, I hope you all can sort it.

Usually I just get dizzy if I drink too much, and if I lay down and hang one foot out over the bed or couch, the room usually stops spinning. :)

dizziness and anxiety?Possible?

i hope someone can help. i have been intermittantly dizzy and or off balance for almost three months. some days i feel fine. some days awful.

I am worse later in the day and terrible if i use the compputer. i am never off balance or dizzy if i drive or watch t.v. or lie down.

My GP whom i have seen three times says i show no nerological signs and thinks it is stress. i went to an ear specialist and it isnt my ears. he thinks it could be anxiety. i went to an opthamologist and he said he sees nothing wrong with my eyes.

i am going crazy. i cant do my work cause i can not use the computer without feeling dizzy.

PLEASE HELP . I am sure it is in my brain but my gp says i have no signs of anything neuro

i did spend a long time in India several months before this happened. could it be some rare disease?

Well I think I've sorted this out. I checked up on the calories I was consuming per day, and it wasn't enough. Started eating more and problem solved.

I don't know if this will help anyone, but it explains the reasons for why I was dizzy all those years ago - I didn't eat until 11 am. Eating more regularly must have its benefits.

Glad you're feeling better Jane. I guess starvation might have some detrimental effects. Not that I'm a Doctor or nothing
