Hi,

My name is Megan and I am new to this site. I have recently been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder. Looking back now, it has obviously been impacting me for my whole life. Several months back I had a very bad spell of anxiety which drove me (and my loved ones) to seek medical attention.

I have since been trying to make sense of it all and get a grip on my anxiety and fears. I have been taking many steps in the right direction, but at this point I think it would be helpful to have someone I can talk to about it who knows what I am going through. I have a wonderful boyfriend and supportive family, but I don't want to place my entire burden on them and I think I would benefit from having somebody completely annonymous to talk to about it.

Is there anyone out there who would care to take on a "pen" pal, so to speak, and exchange emails about our experiences, lives, strategies, whatever.... ? I don't care who you are, where you're from, or what you do... I just care to branch out and find someone who I can get to know and swap stories with.

A little about myself:

I am 20 years old, from Victoria, BC, Canada. I am currently pursuing a BSc. at the University of Victoria majoring in chemistry and minoring in statistics. I enjoy activity and have been involved in sports pretty much my whole life. I am however not your typical jock, as for most of my life I have been overweight and over the last few years have succeeded at losing about 125lbs so far. I enjoy music (rock) and reading (good stories and literature). I have pretty broad interests overall, so it is likely I can have more than just SAD in common with any of you. :)

Anyway, thanks for reading this even if you don't post.

Cheers,
-Megan

Thanks raylite; Yes, losing that much weight took a lot of hard work. I actually find that a big source of my anxieties... When I look in the mirror, I still see my old self. I would love to chat, but I don't have aim or skype. Is there any other way I could contact you?

You're more than welcome to discuss with me over e-mail or via my website, Anxiety Support Network. It sounds like you've been taking a ton of positive steps in your life, so you should feel very good about that. I just want to offer it because somebody, somewhere knows how to help you through what you are going through and there is no problem that is insurmountable.
