Just curious if anyone else had this problem. :?:

I'm naturally soft-spoken (not metaphorically, but stictly volume speaking). I remember that every time I raised my voice when I talked of something in which I was really interested, as a child I was told to tone it down a little bit.

Anyway as you can imagine this obviously gets really annoying sometimes in social situations for both myself and the person I'm talking to. So when asked to repeat what I'd already said I find myself shouting out the answer.

It's like I see no middle ground between the two levels of voice - either calm and quiet, or very loud (which tends to be associated with anger by most people - they get this offended look in their eyes). 8O

Is anyone else like this?

well there is such a thing called Voice Imodilation (I dunno , ever seen the WIll Ferell skit?)...lol anyways, there is a condition where you get this strictly because of your voice.

But if you have social phobia your voice could be just a symptom of that.... I say this cause in my case sometimes that happened.

Like you Ive had people tell me to speak up when its a loud setting and because its loud i got anxiety, but also because its loud, any average person would know to speak up , and i couldnt.

Then in quiet settings when i feel comfortable, I may talk a lot louder than I should and people tell me to tone it down, and i didnt even realize i was talking loud.

I get that, but honestly most people have had that happen as well. Don't think people notice that about you cause even if it happened in front of some one, theres not a way they would really remember that because its just too common of a thing. I wouldnt worry about it. Easier said than done, but if you do have SA like every one on here, we all know there's more to worry about! (haha definitely joking there) but the truth is there's more to be *productive* about.... we have SA.... that IS a problem....but there is a cure. I would go to www.stresscenter.com
That helped me. And read up on why you have SA...
Try to be in the moment more take things one step at a time.
Patience and resliance is the key to recovery.
