Hey im doing Dr. Richards CBT course at the moment but heard ACT is good too - though the idea scares me! Is there any way to mix both and get better results?
CBT is flawed. CBT says you can change negative thoughts into neutral thoughts. ACT addresses that flaw and says just notice unhelpful thoughts. Yes I think you can learn both CBT and ACT at the same time and it would make therapy better and quicker. There are lots of ACT self-help workbooks available, so you can read about ACT at the same time you listen to Dr. Richards tapes.
