Rude people

I tend to think that any time somebody says something rude to me, or gives me a weird look, or acts impatient or annoyed with me, that it must be my fault. I figure I must deserve whatever the I get. I know that isn't true, that sometimes I am just dealing with a rude person who has their own problems, and sometimes there isn't a thing I can do about it. But I tend to assume that I caused the other person's foul mood.

How can I be a socially conscious person who cares about other people's feelings, without worrying about every dirty look or rude remark that comes my way?

I know it's difficult to just up and 'not care what anyone says'.
But really it's not just something you tell yourself and the next day things have changed.
You have to really -feel-, and not just -think-, that you're not caring what anyone thinks or says.
