Social awkwardness is one of those really hard things to describe. You can't exactly "explain" it - but you know awkwardness when you see it / or are awkward yourself.

Recently there's been many articles about the new "Host Your Windows 7 Party" video by Microsoft - where it's just so "socially awkward" that it's "unbearable" to watch the whole thing.

The grand irony is -

Such piece of poor acting is MY REALITY

If people think it's unbearable to watch a minute of "social awkwardness", how do they think it feels like to LIVE like that, 24/7?

And that is the problem. Whilst identifying, and laughing at, social awkwardness is easy - if you're the actual person who is socially awkward in life - there's just... like a wall in front of you. You know you are socially awkward, you want to do something about it - but it just feels like you are lacking some sort of "magical touch". No matter what you say, or do, you just seem to end up being socially awkward either way.

Wow, maybe I'm just that socially inept and/or clueless, but that video didn't seem awkward to me at all. I kept waiting for the awkward part, and never saw it. Oh well *shrugs*

Well the video...

Bad acting? Yes.
Socially awkward? No, not really.

On a slightly different note... Can't wait for Windows 7.

It's awkward because the conversation is flawless. There's no stuttering, no pauses, no misinterpreting one another whatsoever. aka not normal. It makes me think there's probably a stash of dead babies stacked up in the kitchen cupboards.

Where's the awkwardness? I'd love to be able to speak as clearly as those people in the video can.

Absolutely not. A conversation which "just flows", that is, works without much effort, is flawless, it's a sign that the people are compatible, they have similar thought patterns. That's very normal. If you aren't under pressure, there's no rush to speak fast, or to mix up the sequence of thoughts you initially wanted to express. There won't be any stuttering.

Regardless of how comfortable I am with the person, I still stutter, I still lose my train of thought and I still jumble what I say. Not to mention continuously misinterpret the other person. Communication is imperfect.

Well, this is your individual problem. You cannot generalize this to all people. I don't stutter, and my thoughts are usually coherent. My problem is that I speak way too fast. Though, it's possible that others just think too slowly.

social awkwardness is hosting a launch party for windows 7 period

of course it doesn't help that the operating system is bloated and slow and prone to freezing up when you are demonstrating how to use it :p
