How can one be helped when one has an equal but opposite answer/reason to the offered help?

I think you need to be ready at a deep level to change. Until then, you will just "bat away" all offers of help, as it's not what you want (don't want to change).
The first step is probably wanting to help yourself. Then actually doing stuff of that nature. Then lastly, maybe later on, that can lead to allowing others to help you.
