How to overcome

Exposure maybe, even though it's a lot easier said than done. Therapy of some form might also help.

I figured that would be the solution. It just seems so hard to put myself in situations that I feel insecure in.

Weat a bag over your head....No seriously :D There's nothing wrong with being shy, shy people are humble and usually unsellfish...Social anxiety is a different problem all together. I suppose the only cure is exposure.

I agree with recluse. A possible cure is exposure, which is easier said than done. I assume that professional help can be beneficial for some people.

exposure and taking risks might help. Though if you're like me and you think shyness is a bigger problem if just being inadequate and shyness is only a symptom well then maybe that wont help so much. WEll it will but in the end if you are being shy because people reject you so much, then you might need to change whatever it is people reject you by (if that is even possible).

I agree. Taking risks and exposure are both very important. Even if your fear is of being rejected. Rejection is a part of life that we can only deal with by exposing ourselves to it & realizing that acceptance is also possible. I have a terrible fear of rejection & this is my reason for being shy. But forcing myself to take risks and exposing myself to social situations has helped me realize that the only person who is rejecting me is ME.

Anyway, I hope that this helps... I'm still shy (that's why I'm here), but everyday we are given a chance to make our lives richer. Good luck to everyone!

An article that I found and would like to pass on:
