fantasy vs reality

I think fantasy is equally as important as reality. Before there were ever online games and movies and forms of virtual/visual entertainment, books and live plays were a large part of all cultures. We are humans, not robots, and as such I believe that it's important to be able to envision things that have not transpired or seemingly don't exist. We know very very little about our universe and without forward-thinking people imagining possibilities that had not yet happened civilization probably wouldn't have gotten this far. In a way, I think that fantasy precedes reality. My friend just told me the algorithms in computers like the ones used by Google being able to scan your emails, messages, and information accessed or posted online and they are able to construct a personality with Artificial Intelligence with your traits. He wrote a science fiction story with that same plot a number of years ago. Kinda spooky.

In your dreams do you ever ask how did you come to achieve these goals ? As a person I am left asking a lot of questions considering what the dream world is. is it our versions brought on by our emotions. We feel sad we retreat to our paradise. we feel angry we dream of getting even or killing. But what do we think of when we actually feel happy ? I believe dreaming to be anther way of thinking. But is it possible to create a virtual world where we can feel and touch things that are not really there ? Just some thinking I do when think about dreaming.

I can kind of create a virtual world I my own mind, using my imagination. I wonder what if we had the technology to create a real virtual world like the holodeck from star trek.

Everyone does to some degree, imho it's not a great idea to avoid reality, though. We all believe positive and negative things about ourselves that aren't necessarily true, so you could almost say that everybody does it.

I often wonder if I try to avoid reality to much. but sometime I feel that reality is just to painful, stressful to deal with. I also don't feel like I have any control over my life. not being in control is scary and stressful. In my fantasy world I have complete control over everything that happens.

that's true, I have a hard time with believing anything positive about myself In real life so I often create a fantasy version of myself that is better then my real self. (look better, act better, No social phobia, none of the problems I have I real life.)

My whole life is a fantasy world. I have legitimately created an entire new world for myself and mostly live in that world unless some responsibility of mine forces me to come back to reality. Creating a fantasy world is a symptom of avoidant personality disorder.

That pretty much describes my ideas as well. My fantasy version has no social phobia and plenty of friends and a great life.
