Doctor's Appointment.

I'm going to the eye doctor in a few day. I have avoidant personality disorder so kinda freaking out.

Last time I left the house was three months ago, I have no social contact outside of my close family so this is going to be very difficult.

Last time I went to the doctor was 2 years ago, that was also the last time I'd spoken to any outside my family. I acted like a moronic idiot. Kept my head down, didn't make eye contact, facial blushing, a lot of sweat, and every time he asked me some a question I'd talk in a really low voice so he could barely hear me (not purposely).

I'm looking for advice on how to act. It's one thing to have to be next to another person but to have them a few inches away from my face...oh gosh...

Any advice on on helping me from doing the following: constantly blinking (I know I will, I don't know why), excessively sweating, facial blushing, avoiding all eye contact whatsoever, talking in low unintelligible voice, and acting...just plain stupid.

It might help to keep in mind that a Doctor isn't going to look and judge you the same way that most other people will.

Yeah that's a good way to look at it...like the worst thing he could say is I have eye disease and I'm gonna go blind.

Seriously though, that was actually kinda helpful. Thanx.

it doesn't matter what the doc thinks about u... and u can actually tell him/her u have SA.. he'll understand and no problem and he can't tell anybody:D I mean he's a doctor to, and he had to finish some psychology to deal with different kinds of patients.. or just go threw it...:D dunno if I was helpful...

You can tell him you have social phobia if it helps, but honestly, I think doctors in their offices are different people, and he won't really be judging you... And don't forget that he's seen all types!

You're nothing the doctor hasn't already seen before, dont be scared of him. I grew up with doctors all around me my entire life, so I feel more at home with them than my own friends.

I know that feeling. The most daring thing I had done for ages was going to the opticians. I had lots of silly ideas going around my head about what could happen or what I would do to show myself up. The experience itself was straight forward and easy after all that worry.

Thank you, that was actually quite helpful.

I'm usually happy to go to appointments.
Most people make me feel comfortable and this is something that I crave for.
