Couldn't talk to a new person

I think I said before that we currently have temps starting where I work and they're the same kind of age as me, male and female. For a small part of the day they are sometimes ending up sat next to me alone (but doing something) while they're being trained. They're always on their own, it's never a group. Well it was a pair once.

I had someone sat next to me again today. It was the perfect opportunity and I didn't say anything. I didn't know what to do and of course I had the other people I work with sat around too. And they don't help because they don't say hi to the person either! How I'd say hi has me worrying because if I get it wrong I have nowhere to hide. And then I don't go into the staff room or anything so it's not like I'll see them again.

And that's it, I can go to the pub/Christmas party/whatever as much as I like, unless I can get over the breaking the ice stuff, I can't do anything...

:(

What if u just tried to smile at them next time one of them is sitting by you? You wouldn't have to say anything but just a friendly smile? It would let them know ur nice and maybe they'll say hi to you!

Thanks but they sit literally a metre away next to me and I'm afraid I did actually do that, not too much but a little bit. I will try it again if another opportunity ever comes up. But they don't look at me do they :/

No, I didn't... this is what I always do, and it's so stupid. In fact when it was happening I knew that I'd look back on it and wonder why I didn't. But I guess you know how it feels in the moment with so many things holding you back in your head.

I will try but they come in so quickly that I don't realise what they're doing until they've walked behind me. I guess I could smile at everyone :)
