Why can't people just speak for themselves?

Ok I'm kinda pissed rite now. I'm living at my aunt's house over Winter break and have a few days before going back to college. So my aunt, mom, cousins, and I are on Skype talking to our grandparents and another aunt and my grandpa asks me whether I have a girlfriend. I answered in a comical fashion that he'll have to come here to find out and after a few seconds I just said no.
But that's not the bad part, but what came after. My aunt beside me starts lecturing me that I shouldn't expect to find a girlfriend if I expect the girl to chase me, that I have to chase after her instead. I was frickin embarrassed when she said that, like I was some spoiled brat who only wanted girls to come to me. The thing was that, she said that in front of everyone! So I started to defend myself a little, saying I did not mean that I was not willing to go after girls. The fact is, I have tried to pursue this one girl I liked a while back, but it hurt, and I didn't want to explain that in front of all these people. She just kept lecturing me, so I had to leave the conversation. I don't want to talk about my past and I hate it when people can't speak for themselves and give false impressions of others. Anyway, I'm going to try to make things clearer next time, so this doesn't happen again.

Just pretend it doesn't bother you. If you get upset about it they'll think you really do need advice, and thus give it to you no matter what you say. Your aunt probably thought she was helping. Some people are stupid like that.

Screw 'em. They just don't understand.
This reminded me of an old song...

"You know parents are the same
No matter time nor place
They don't understand that us kids
Are going to make some mistakes
So to you, all the kids all across the land
There's no need to argue
Parents just don't understand!"
