Ways to help with bring awareness

Hello all,

I was wondering if you all had any ideas of ways to help our school systems and other organizations become more aware of this bullying problem. I am currently working on some programs to try to implement within our local Washing DC Area school districts as well as others around the country.

Probably start looking at what other countries and schools are already doing. There's some great programs in Australia and the UK for example. Even some great programs already current in the U.S.

Why reinvent the wheel when you can take what's there and mold it to what works for you.

for example - Bullying. No Way!

quick google search finds heaps of programs that are already in place and working, and the resources are openly shared.

Thanks a lot Lilly. I have connected with the Australian based organization Don't Bully® Australia. My biggest problem is that school districts are not really having problems in place, they just do dances or just definitions. I'm looking to put programs in place in my local area just like the DARE program, but with anti-bullying. If you know anyone who would like to volunteer to help spread the word, please let me know. We are doing a lot of films on mental illness and bullying to bring awareness as well.

I wonder if a student-run support group would be possible? Kind of a place to discuss what's going on and receive support, if there were rules and procedures in place to keep fights from breaking out in response to someone's trouble. My perception of school officials is that either they care or they don't, and that they may be involved themselves in some cases.

Yeah that sounds like a great idea Lorn. I guess the biggest thing I need to do is set up these meetings with schools and youth groups.

The entire problem is having public schools in the first place. Its interesting how there is all of a sudden this awareness of bullying in schools, however the awareness seems to want to blame the kids instead of the actual culprit which is the flaud public schooling system. Anytime you have thousands of kids forced into one place like a prison, there is going to be bullying. Bullying is just the manifestation of the prison that is public schooling. Get rid of all public schools, and start teaching kids important topics like loving oneself instead of worthless propaganda that is being taught right now. There is so much stress put on kids to perform well in these schools that it leads to all sorts of problems in our youngsters.
