Working at a hotel

It's a vague question, I know, but does anyone else think it's a good idea for someone with social anxiety?

I actually thought about doing that. I wanted to do housekeeping. So...I guess I was wondering the same thing! :D

I dont know if housekeeping would mean i would have to go to peoples rooms and ask them if they needed anything or something. That might be a bit hard.

It seems that many if not most jobs which offer good career perspectives in different field requires you to deal with social interactions and interaction with the public.

Personally I will be getting a degree in the marketing field, not only will my future job involve social interaction, but the courses I will be taking at my university will probably be the same and there are many courses where I will be required to make oral presentations.

Conquering SA is a must for me.

i think the only bad job you could get for social anxiety would be one which doesn't force you to conquer it.

I work in a hotel, it's not that bad at all, much better than my other job.
Hardly any social interaction at all, I just clean rooms and listen to music. Sometimes I waitress but not usually, go for it!

As long as you're not the person at the main desk who has to deal with the impatient, rude, self-centered people.

I think I will give the hotel thing a try. Now the first step is to find a hotel that is actually hiring. There is a new one opening this summer downtown but that place is too huge for me. I'd rather go with a smaller hotel that isn't in the middle of hundreds of people like that one will surely be.

I had a friend who worked as a night porter which involved just sitting around waiting for people to call for room service or carrying their bags if they arrived in the night. There was noone else on duty as it was a small hotel so it was ideal. Cleaning the rooms would also be bearable especially if you can do it alone. I don't know how fast they would expect you to do it- it might depend on what the boss was like. I think you should give it a go- it'd be a lot better than something where you're constantly interracting with people. Hope things are ok at the moment.
