After recently being diagnosed with Social Phobia, I set course on finding a resolution. My career is solving problems (IT Support), but the problem I've hit now is that my mind won't let me think about it.
It's almost like trying to delve into the problem further is so terrifying that I draw blanks, cry, or I literally just want to run far away from where ever I am at the time.
Why am I crying? What am I running from? I have no idea. I've already worked out that I've had it my whole life, and how I got it, but both I can think about without either of the above occuring.
Step 1: Okay, I have social phobia
Step 2: I need to figure out how I can interact with other people socially
Step 3: Terror
I'm quite happy living in my own world, doing my own thing. I'm good at my job, and I can give talks and presentations without issue. However if I'm asked out to lunch or to somewhere after work, I freak out, stammer out an excuse and feel like I have to run far, far away.
I'm hoping someone knows what I'm talking about and can give me an idea on what I can do to get past this. Thanks.
