Valentines Day...

I feel somewhat embarrassed by the number of cards I got. Should I tell you the number of cards I got exactly or number of sacks of cards? Well Zero!

I am not bothered this year, some years when I have been friendly with a woman I like and have hoped maybe I could get a card but didn't, but this year I got what I expected so I can't complain. But I think about a lot of people at work who were saying their plans of tonight and you kind of think that must be nice!
Maybe next year?

I’m pretty much in the same situation. Valentines Day is not a big deal for me. I’ve pretty much given up on “magically” receiving tons of valentines from people (or even one person). As they say: You get back what you put out – and I’ve not made much of an effort over the years. No big surprises here.

I used to be so hard on myself feeling I am not good enough for a woman I like to be interested in me, but I am starting to think I am - but I do need that confidence in order to make a real effort at getting women to notice me, I mean isolating yourself and making no efforts to meet women is going to get me/you/anyone nowhere. I don't think it would be too hard to meet someone you like, as long as you had the confidence to make an impression.
This time next year Drew things will be a lot more rosier!

I and some of my friends tend to try cheer each other up even though ours is not romance. I visited a friend a few months ago and she sent a gift with me to be opened on Feb 14th. I saw it this morning when I got up and opened it - it's a scented candle. It was fun to be thought of. I give my buddies valentines cards etc. again none of it is romantic but it kind of lets us celebrate. I remember once when my sister was lamenting that she had been without "at least one boyfriend for 6 whole months!" Yeah - she liked to say things like to me because she knew I rarely if ever dated. ANyway - for Valentines day - as she was upset that she would not be getting anthing - I sent her flowers and dropped a few letters off of my name to make it a man's name on the card. So when she received the flowers she didn't know who sent them at first and the other ladies were intrigued that she had a secret admirer...after a few minutes she realized it must be me - that I had altered my name but she didn't tell anyone that it was her sister - she felt sort of comforted that she received flowers like everyone else in her office. The following year - I received flowers from her on Valentines day - she had dropped letters off of her name also (she and I were named for my father and my uncle so our names can be easily masculinized) and I knew at a glance who it was. Once year we both sent a friend flowers that way - dropping letters off our name made it seem like two men had sent my friend flowers. IT was a fun break from normal (ok but try explaining to the florist why you want to send your sister red roses for valentines day) but we didn't do it often because it's too expensive. Cards or baking things for buddies are easier - I want to enjoy any holiday that comes along.

Never recieved a card for the last 31 years so i didn't really expect anything different this year 
It would be nice to have a boyfriend but hey, ho. I've decided to focus on the things that i do have and not dwell on the things that i don't! :wink:

It bothers you (generic you) less as you get on in years. I think it has to do with mellowing out. It's a big deal when you're 12 or 16, but by your twenties it loses its importance. At least it did for me, for the most part.

I sent and recieved....(for like the first time in my life) i can see where peple are coming from about it being over commercialised and such.. but i think its really nice when you do have some one send you somthing or some one to send to... and its not just an excuse to buy expensive crap in my opinion,i got a card off someone i care for which obviously didnt break the bank just being a card and yet it means the world to me.I sent her a card aslo and a little silver rolo in a box saying my last rolo and she was that happy she cried,to me thats priceless.

I am not really a Valentine's person, but I would like to at least spend VD with my SO. But, he didn't even call me. He texted me at around noon and said Happy Valentine's Day. I thought that he might come over after work, but then he texted me and said that he had to stay at work because the "alarm was breaking" or something like that. While it could be true, it just seems really fishy and ignorant. He could have at least called me and told me this in person. I got mad, so he finally called, but did not answer. I don't want gifts, cards, chocolates, but I would have liked company. Now I see where his priorities are.

i had my best valentine's ever and it was really pretty lame. i've never been with anyone on valentines until this year - i just started dating someone. but all he did was call and say happy valentines day. he lives about an hour away and we've only been together a few weeks, but still... that was pretty half-assed.
