re: talking to your parents

It may seem hard to talk to them but it might help if they knew what you are going through.
My seventeen year old son has this and it wasn't easy for him to talk to me about it.
I actually think I also have it.
Give your parents a chance or if you have someone like a sibling or friend who might speak on your behalf it will open the doors of communication with them.
It wasn't easy for him to open up to me and some people still don't get it.
Just know you aren't ALONE...there are a lot of people with this and it is very REAL.
Take care and I hope you let us know how you made out talking to them.
Sometimes just knowing what is wrong can help.
My son knows I now understand and finally his dad does to. (We are divorced and my son lives at home with me.)
Good Luck hon...maybe you can have someone there with you that you trust.
Unfortunately this tends to isolate people and it has with my son.
Lots of his friends drifted away because he wasn't "social" enough.
It is sad but one of the realities of this.
While he wants to he can't and that is the difference.
He is a great kid and it breaks my heart that others don't realize this.
If they only knew him like I do...he is smart, funny and I am proud to be his mom and proud to have him for my son.
He isn't stupid or lazy or any of the other negative things people sometimes associate people with this as being.
It just becomes paralyzing to deal with people and social situations, crowds and that can mean ONLY two OTHER people...it doesn't have to be a large crowd.
Dealing with strangers, answering the door or phone all can create stress and anxiety and actual physical symptoms of feeling sick and they are very real to the person experiencing them.
Just hope you are doing a little better today.
Take care!

Having this does impact on your life and the lives of those around you.
